On Saturday June 25th 2011, Cadets from 1181 (Syston) Squadron joined other Leicestershire Squadrons to honour Britains Armed Forces.
Outside Leicester Cathedral, Cadet Standards joined together with the massed Standards to form a Guard of Honour for the Civic Dignitaries who were attending the service. The readings were given by Rt Hon Andrew Robathan MP and Mrs Helen Gray whose son was killed in Afghanistan in 2007. Once the service was over, everyone formed up outside the Cathedral to begin the Parade at 1200 hours precisely. The Paraade was headed by the Band of the Pipes and Drums and the Massed Standards. The Air Cadets numbered approx 50 and were led by Sqn Ldr John Hill and the Parade Commander Flt Lt Andy Faulkner OC 2502 (Hamilton) Sqn. As we left the Cathedral it just started to rain, but this did not dampen the spirits of the people of Leicester who lined the route from the Cathedral to the Town Hall. The Parade was applauded the whole way round to the Town Hall where the salute was taken by Lady Gretton Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire.
