Cadets from 1181 (Syston) joined representatives from all three corps of cadets, current members of the armed forces and British Legion members at the Walkers Stadium for Leicester City’s remembrance parade against fierce rivals Derby County.

Before the game the cadets braved the cold weather to sell poppies to aid the poppy appeal.

Following the poppy selling the match ball was delivered by a Squirrel helicopter from RAF Shawbury of which the cadets formed a guard of honour for its landing, bearing over sized poppies to commemorate the remembrance weekend. Pilot Offcier Kenyon was the Parade Commander for the cadet contingent leading the Air Cadets, Army Cadets, Marine Cadets and Sea Cadets.

After enjoying the first half of the game the cadets took to the pitch to join a lap of honour to a standing ovation by the 25,000 fans in attendance.

Officer Commanding 1181 Pilot Officer Andy Kenyon added that ‘The veterans and cadets really enjoyed the afternoons entertainment that was laid on by Leicester City. The opportunity to represent the corps whilst fund-raising for a good cause, in such a high profile event is something that could not be missed. The cadets featured in the match-day programme, could be seen on the local news and were even beamed out live on Thai national television. I am very proud of the cadets and the way they acquitted themselves on the day.’
