Cadet Flight Sergeant Dan Garlick was this evening received the right to wear the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet badge upon his second brassard after attending his investiture at County Hall in Leicester.
The Lord-Lieutenant has three cadets each year nominated by the Sea Cadets Corps, the Army Cadet Force, and the Air Training Corps. Cadets are nominated for their outstanding contribution to their respective cadets units.
Gaining a place at Sheffield Business School has meant that Dan has had to move away from the Leicester area to study and leave 1181 Squadron, although he has now successfully taken the post of Senior Cadet NCO at 367 (South Sheffield) Squadron. Although his permanent residence is seventy miles north of Leicester, he will now regularly visit 1181 whilst at home to assist Lady Gretton in her duties.
During his five and a half years with the 1181 Dan has visited several countries around Europe, flown solo in a glider, represented the Wing in football and is currently half way through his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Dan has also been selected for the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme of which he shall complete in Dundee next summer. In recommending Dan as a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet his Commanding Officer commented that “Flight Sergeant Daniel Garlick is a very loyal and committed member of 1181 (Syston) Squadron. He is well respected by both his fellow cadets and staff members. As my Squadron Senior Cadet NCO, Daniel leads two flights within the unit and pulls them together as one when we participate in inter-Squadron events and activities. Daniel acts as my eyes and ears during parade nights and accepts his responsibility, guiding junior cadets and NCO’s as well as offering cadet welfare when necessary. He has achieved a lot during his career with the cadets and to be appointed as a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet would crown his distinguished service to the Air Training Corps.”
