Cadets from 1181 (Syston) Squadron recently took to the range at Melton Mowbray's TA Center for a chance to practise their marksmanship principles under the watchful eye of Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson.
Five cadets from Syston Squadron joined fellow cadets from 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Squadron in the classroom to learn their principles, followed by time on the range with a .22 rifle, to work towards the variety of different marksman awards in which the Corps offers.
Cadets Corporal Setchell and Flight Sergeant Garlick successfully completed their Squadron Marksman Award and were close to completing their Wing Marksman before running out of targets. Cadet Corporal Gardener shot well throughout the day and worked through the Squadron Marksman and fired his way to the Wing Marksman.
The day was a great success and would not have been possible without the help of staff at both 1181 and 1279 and also Wing Commander Dickinson, who allowed the cadets a chance to fire on the range, as the Range Commanding Officer.
