On Sunday 9th May 2010 1181 Squadron took part in the annual Wing Athletics Championships held at Saffron Lane Stadium in Leicester competing against 28 other Squadrons across South and East Midlands Wing. The day began quite coldly, and didn’t improve very much throughout the whole day!

The entire team put in an exceptional performance, despite some last minute injuries, which unfortunately meant that we were unable to fill some age groups. There were some outstanding individual performances.

Class A

Class A (Junior Boys) Cdt Leon Williams, finished 2nd in 1500m, despite EATING A BURGER 2 MINS BEFORE HIS RACE, and he finished 6th in the 100m.

Class B

Class B (Youths) Cdt Jack Snart finished 4th in 800m and 5th in 800m.

Class C

Class C (Junior Men) Cpl Adam Startin finished 7th in 400m, 4th in 1500m and 4th in long jump.

Class D

In Class D (Junior Girls) Cdt Heather Lawson won the 400m, convincingly, came 2nd in 800m and 6th in shot. She was also a part of the relay team which finished a very respectable 5th.

Class E

Class E (Junior Women) This class was dominated by Cdt Stephanie Cochrane who jogged the 100m and flew over the high jump.

15th Overall

All of this culminated in an overall finish of 15th, 4 places higher than last year. Congratulations to everyone who took part, thank you to those who came along to offer support and lets do better next year!!!
