Hundreds of cadets and staff from Leicestershire marched through the town of Syston to celebrate ATC Sunday, on 7th February. ATC Sunday commemorates the formation of The Air Training Corps on 5th February 1941.

Led by the band of 1084 (Market Harborough) Squadron and 1181 (Syston) Squadron, approximately 300 cadets and staff marched from 1181’s headquarters at Wreake Valley College to St Peter and St Paul's for a church service led by Squadron Padre, the Rev David White.

Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Ian Stewart was in attendance to inspect cadets of 1181 Squadron and officially open the Squadron’s recently built Boeing 737 flight simulator.

The Corps Banner could be seen on the parade making its first appearance in Leicestershire since the formation of The Air Training Corps in 1941. This would be the Banners last appearance before its retirement later this year.

After the success of the parade Air Commodore Stewart praised Syston Squadron ‘Well done 1181 Squadron, it was a fantastic day today. I was very impressed to see the flight simulator, I can see alot of work has gone into this. It was an outstanding day and great to see so many cadets on a cold February day, is wonderful to see.’
