‘At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.’

On the evening of 7th November 2009, 1181 (Syston) Squadron joined Cadets from Army Cadet Force and Sea Cadet Corps to pay respect to the fallen, on the eve of Remembrance Sunday at Leicester City’s home game to West Bromwich Albion at the Walkers Stadium.

Remembrance DayPoppy selling commenced before the match and the cadets helped to raise a total of £5,700 for the poppy appeal.

The Cadets formed a guard of honour as the teams took to the pitch. The match ball was then delivered to the stadium by the Royal Air Force in a Squirrel Helicopter from RAF Shawbury.

After a poor first half performance from Leicester City, Cadets took to the pitch, joining a parade with member of the Royal British Legion and troops who have served recently in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pride was felt between the Cadets, who paraded to a standing ovation of over 28,000 people.

The following morning the Cadets gathered in the streets of Syston again to pay respect on Remembrance Sunday. Lead by the Officer Commanding Flight Lieutenant Faulkner through the town centre to war memorial, gaining praise from the watching public.

‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.’
