During the Remembrance weekend, Staff and Cadets from 1181 (Syston) Sqn remembered with gratitude, those who have fallen in defence of their country.
On Friday morning, 11-11-11, Cadet Corporal Andy Norman and Cdt Peat joined members of the Royal British Legion in Syston Town Centre for the short act of Remembrance. On Sunday morning 13-11-11, Staff and and over 30 Cadets joined members of the RBL, Syston Town Council, Syston Silver Band, Syston Fire Brigade and youth groups around Syston, to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives in battle. For the first time, a Cadet was invited to carry the Union Flag at the head of the Parade. This was ably carried by Sergeant Andy Norman. Cadet Poole carried the Squadron Banner with Cadet Syrett and Cadet Hopkinson as his escorts. Cadet Cpl Laura Beard carried a wreath to be laid at the Cenotaph.
The service was taken by the Squadrons Padre, Rev Canon David White. It was once again noted by members of the public how smart the Cadets looked. In the evening, the Cadets attended a service held at Barkby Church, with Cadet Sergeant Norman once again carrying the Union Flag and Cadet Sergeant Setchell carrying the Squadron Banner.
