As 1181 (Syston) Cadets and Staff set off on Wednesday 9th October, nobody was too sure what to expect!
We had come across a chance to visit Air Traffic Control (ATC) at East Midlands Airport; a very unique opportunity. Upon reaching the airport, we had to find the ALL important security office to be issued our passes, and after what must have been the shortest queue in history! we entered Air Traffic Control. To begin, we were invited to view the approach room, with an array of lights, screens and fancy gadgets. The cadets were captivated as our host explained how they control the skies above the East Midlands and how the technology works. Afterwards we took the lift right up to the top of the tower. Immediately we were in awe of all of the things we could see from that height, one of which was our Squadron bus! During our time there we witnessed a couple of take offs and landings, while we were constantly squabbling over who got the binoculars!
On the way back down many of us chose to tackle the immense spiral of stairs that would take us back down and to the bus. All in all a great time was had by all and a special thanks to the Mr Reeves` and all the Staff at East Midlands ATC for making it all happen.
