On Monday 29th of August, three 1181 (syston) cadets ventured to RAF Syerston to go gliding.
Once we where there we had to hand in our record of service books (3822's) so they could check that they where signed by our parents to do this specific activity. Once checked, we drove in a white minibus to the launch point which was a red and white chequered caravan, it's like a miniature air traffic control centre.

Once we where all out of the mini bus we met other cadets from all over the place such as jersey, that where all doing a gliding scholarship which goes towards a flying scholarship.
After we all said our hello's and the staff had there tea's we started gliding, the tractor brought up the winch cables (that are used to winch up the gliders to help them glide), after that we got taught how to check the winch cables and then gliding commenced. Cadet Snart was the first 1181 cadet to glide, followed by Cadet Holmes and Cadet Rickman was last, we all had atleast 2 flights each which came to roughly around 20 minutes.
We were entertained and had a very enjoyable day out in the cloudy weather with occasional rays of sun. We would like to thank the staff and pilots of 643 VGS and everyone who made it possible for us to glide. Written By Cadet Cameron Snart and Cadet Joshua Holmes |
