| One very wet and windy Sunday... |
On the morning of Sunday 4th March, Cadets Adkin, Rickman, Lenihan, Watson-Evans, Corporals Poole and Syrett and Sergeant Norman and the staff consisting of CI Rutherford, CI Wright and Pilot Officer McGlynn all from 1181 (Syston) Squadron went to join cadets from 5F (Northampton), 1211 (Swadlincote), 1359 (Beeston), 2070 (Glenfield) and 2418 (Sherwood) Squadrons on the South and East Midlands Wing Shoot. On the way, Cadets Adkin, Rickman and Corporal Syrett were treated to disney songs whilst they enjoyed the rain outside. As they arrived at shooting, some of the other squadrons had already arrived so they all gathered into the crew room for a safety briefing before the shoot. After a short wait, every cadet was allocated a rifle to use before being split into groups of 6. They each then got the chance to shoot on the 25m range in their groups of 6. Waiting in the crew room, the excitement grew for the 1181 (Syston) cadets as for many of them it was their first time on the range at RAF Wittering. "I was full of nerves and excitement as it was my first time on the range at RAF Wittering, however, Pilot Officer McGlynn was there to help as Safety Supervisor on the range and after a bit of help and coaching from the staff, I managed to get all 5 rounds onto the target during a rapid fire practise! Overall, shooting was great fun and I would recommend it to anyone!" Cadet Corporal Syrett 1181 (Syston) Squadron |
